Background:
• The conventional method of shelling maize cobs seems light, women feel it as a drudgery prone activity because of the monotony involved in performance, adoption of sitting and performing the activity for a longer period of time. • Manual shelling is a time-consuming, slow and tedious operation. • Manual shelling results in occupational health hazards for worker including postural discomfort, injured fingers with cuts and bruises. • The prevailing maize shellers (mostly tractor operated) are of very high capacity and heavy in weight and not suitable for hilly topography and small fields. Technology Details:
• The VL Maize Sheller is light in weight and can be easily transported by two persons from one field to other field. • The cost of the VL Maize Sheller is very low and it is affordable to small farmers. • VL Maize Sheller will reduce the drudgery of farm women/farmer, will save time and enhance efficiency.
